Annual events
The African American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC) hosts a series of annual events that center Black joy, culture, and community, and are open to all who want to connect, celebrate, and learn. From the Welcome Black BBQ to Black Love Gala, these events create opportunities to celebrate, reflect, and build connections. AARCC also partners on long-standing traditions like Pachanga, a weeklong celebration of Afro-Latine culture, and invites students to engage with the broader region through quarterly ABC Outings. Whether you’re new to campus or a graduating senior, AARCC events offer moments of joy, unity, and belonging throughout the year.

Black Grad
Our annual Welcome Fall Ball kicks off the academic year by bringing together new and returning students, staff, and faculty. It’s a great opportunity to connect with the Women’s Center, explore student organizations, discover campus resources, and build community as the year begins.

Welcome Black BBQ
The Welcome Black BBQ is the annual Fall Welcome event AARCC hosts at the beginning of each academic year. It serves as a chance for incoming students to get acquainted with one another, with the resources on campus, and to bond while eating some good barbecue.

Black Love Gala
The Black Love Gala is our Black Prom event! Its purpose is to hold a space for the celebration of our ABC community, to dress up in our finest attire, eat good food, and be united on a grand occasion.

ABC Outings
AARCC’s ABC Outings are an opportunity for students to explore the larger community around Santa Cruz. Each quarter, AARCC invites students on a field trip into town or outside of Santa Cruz to help develop a deeper sense of belonging to this area.

Pachanga
Pachanga is an annual collaborative event between AARCC and El Centro. It is a celebration of Afro-Latine music, and heritage. Pachanga consists of a week of educational programs that bring together many elements of various cultures such as food, music, dance, and wellness. We end the week with a baile and celebrate unity in community. Pachanga has been hosted by AARCC and El Centro for over 15 years!
