AARCC Academic Internship

INTERNS ARE CENTRAL TO OUR WORK WITH STUDENTS

AARCC interns are essential to the development and implementation of activities, events and responses to issues that emerge from daily life on the UCSC campus. They work collaboratively with the Director of the Center and with the community in organizing a quarterly calendar of events, maintaining a vibrant social media outlets, Call & Response, collaborate with student organizations, host student panels for high school and community college guests, and much more. Additionally, interns are engaged in the overall work of the campus Resource Centers which include the American Indian Resource Center, the Asian American/Pacific Islander Resource Center, El Centro: Chicano Latino Resource Center, the Cantú Queer Center, and Women’s Center.


2-UNIT INTERNSHIP:

  • Requires minimum 8-10 hours per week commitment. Interns are expected to attend mandatory orientation sessions and weekly staff meetings.
  • After completing 2 quarters of the 2-unit internship, interns become paid interns from their third quarter working as an AARCC intern onward.

INTERN ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Program and Project Coordination, including Welcome Black BBQ, Black History Month events, Ebony Palace, Black Grad, and smaller events that include workshops, panel discussions, film screenings, collaborative efforts with student organizations and campus units and departments, and book talks or faculty discussions. Interns gain valuable organizing skills by developing task lists, timelines and budgets for activities and events; preparing press releases and organizing outreach strategies; facilitating meetings; communicating with student organizations, campus academic departments, and retention programs. Central to these responsibilities is the expectation that AARCC Interns work as a TEAM with one another and with the Director.
